LiveConnections presents Michi Wiancko & Judd Greenstein
Original artists, original music. LiveConnections brings you unique collaborations and fresh sounds from some of the best artists today, in the intimate atmosphere of our partner venue World Cafe Live.

New music fans should get front-row seats. New York-based composer-performers Michi Wiancko and Judd Greenstein come together as a duo for a brunch performance of inventive works for 5-string violin, Fender Rhodes keys and electronics. Drawing from multiple sources of inspiration and influence, Greenstein and Wiancko will present all-original works — including a world premiere — in a program that can best be described as classical chamber-pop with echoes of folk, jazz and electronica.

The Strad describes Wiancko’s compositions as “intriguing and exquisitely beautiful…music that breaks through the pop-classical barrier.” And according to the Boston Globe, “It's tough to shoehorn [Greenstein’s music] into traditional categories, but it doesn't matter: Here is … a lot of engaging new music, as well as one piece I am sorely tempted to call a masterpiece.”

About LiveConnections:
Founded in 2008, LiveConnections creates innovative, boundary-crossing music programming and education out of partner venue World Cafe Live. LiveConnections’ ClassicAlive concert series—called “breathtaking” by the Philadelphia Weekly—expands how classical music is experienced through cross-genre collaborations, new and engaging repertoire and a relaxed atmosphere with food and drink. The 2014-2015 season features six concerts highlighting artists who write and perform their own original music. For complete details, visit http://liveconnections.org.
Michi Wiancko
Michi Wiancko
Forging a one-of-a-kind career path, violinist Michi Wiancko was recently described in Gramophone Magazine as an “alluring soloist [with] heightened expressive and violinistic gifts.” She has given debut performances with orchestras including the New York Philharmonic and Los Angeles Philarmonic and frequently presents recital and chamber performances across the nation. Michi made her New York solo recital debut at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall after winning the 2002 Concert Artists Guild International Competition. She was featured as an “Artist to Watch” on the cover of the January 2007 issue of SYMPHONY Magazine. Michi has toured extensively throughout the country as soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician, and has appeared in venues such as the Kennedy Center, Sydney Opera House, Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Gallery, Library of Congress, New York's Town Hall, Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, and countless others. As singer, violinist and composer for her band KONO MICHI, she consistently pushes the boundaries of the classical repertoire and explores new genres. The Strad describes the sound as “intriguing and exquisitely beautiful music that breaks through the pop classical barrier.” A native of Southern California, Michi began her violin studies at the age of 3. She holds degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she studied with Donald Weilerstein, and from The Juilliard School, where she was a student of Robert Mann.
Judd Greenstein
Judd Greenstein
Judd Greenstein is a Brooklyn-based composer of structurally complex, viscerally engaging works for varied instrumentation. A passionate advocate for the independent new music community in New York and beyond, much of Judd's work is written for the virtuosic ensembles and solo performers who make up that community, and is tailored to their specific talents and abilities. Judd has written for soloists such as violist Nadia Sirota, soprano Anne-Carolyn Bird, percussionist Samuel Solomon, violinist Colin Jacobsen, pianist Michael Mizrahi and flutist Alex Sopp. Major recent commissions include those from Carnegie Hall, the Minnesota Orchestra, ETHEL, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Present Music, yMusic and Roomful of Teeth. Central to his output is his work for NOW Ensemble, the composer/performer collective that develops new chamber music for their idiosyncratic instrumentation of flute, clarinet, electric guitar, double bass, and piano. Judd received degrees from Williams College and the Yale School of Music, has been a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center and the Bang on a Can Summer Institute of Music, and is completing his PhD dissertation at Princeton University. Judd is also the recipient of a Six Points Fellowship for Emerging Jewish Artists, a partnership of Avoda Arts, JDub Records, and the Foundation for Jewish Culture.
