Matt Wheeler & Vintage Heart
Matt Wheeler & Vintage Heart
A troubadour, a poet with a guitar, a stage banter-conversationalist - all terms that describe Matt Wheeler's music & performance style well. Matt’s songwriting paints pictures with words, often drawing inspiration from classic works of literature or simply spinning new original stories in song. Lyrics & dynamics play a key role, as each song really means something, and each one is delivered with an honesty that is compelling.

Matt draws audiences in with engaging stories and interaction, while shining the spotlight on the lyrical strength of his songs. And, when joined by his band Vintage Heart, the poignant lyrics meet expressive strings and driving percussion to make orchestral folk songs that rewards repeated listens. The result is a pleasing sound that recalls wordsmiths like Denison Witmer, Iron & Wine, and James Taylor.

“Warm sound & heartfelt lyrics. If you are a fan of Josh Ritter give a listen to Matt!”
- Helen Leicht, WXPN Philadelphia

"Matt really has a way with words. He puts poetry to music really rather than simply writing songs. Very beautiful writing."
- Red Line Roots, Boston
Joanie & Matt
Joanie & Matt (JAM) is made up of NYC-based multi-award winning singer/songwriters Joanie Leeds & Matthew Check.
For their songwriting and 10+ recordings between them, they have earned an Emmy nomination, 1st place in the USA Songwriting Competition, Independent Music Award, John Lennon Songwriting Contest Finalist and have been featured in People Magazine, the New York Times and Washington Post.
Back in 2008, Joanie & Matt co-wrote a collection of songs for a Jewish Children’s Bluegrass album during their daily lunch breaks while working at Central Synagogue, one of NYC's largest Synagogues. Challah, Challah, the first “Jewgrass” children’s album, was born! The duo toured Nationally with their own individual projects over the past decade. Joanie's kids music with Joanie Leeds & The Nightlights is on frequent rotation right here on Kids Corner and she has performed at XPoNential Fest and the Peanut Butter and Jams Series (as well as The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Wolftrap, Skirball Center...) Matt has performed in various bluegrass bands. Now the duo has reunited and taking it to the next level- music for grownups!
Their harmony infused Folksy-Americana tunes for their debut album, STERLING (Releasing July 19th), are inspired by stories and characters from ancient texts. The album artfully showcases story songs inspired by the Bible but retold through a modern, feminist lens controversially embodying themes like the #MeToo movement, female empowerment, substance abuse the LGBTQ community and more.
