New Sound Brass Band
New Sound Brass Band
New Sound Brass is a Philadelphia based brass band that
offers a fresh and soulful twist on various styles of music.
This multi cultural unit draws influence and inspiration from
its vast and diverse background to produce a sound that has
been described as Philly Soul spoken through brass. New
Sound is not so much new in terms of the sonic but rather it
is new in the process, in how the sound collected, treated
and offered. The intention is to build culture, community
and phenomenon by the melding and interplay between
band and the audience experience. We don't play at a
crowd, we play with a crowd.
Jimmy Scantron is a singer-songwriter and recently-departed guitarist for Philadelphia’s own, Low Cut Connie. After 6 years on the road, 3 albums, and hundreds of shows between the US and Europe, Jimmy has moved on to focus on his own creative vehicle, Scantron. With a rotating cast of some of the area’s finest musicians, the project focuses on continuing the tradition of a compelling live show, power pop hooks and choruses, and a the mingling of beautiful guitar harmonies - just like your favorite 1970s shred heroes. Catch Jimmy’s songs on television shows like the CW’s “The Flash” and Netflix’s “Ozark”.
The Dull Blue Lights
The Dull Blue Lights are a band in between. Drawing from influences as varied as Motown soul, Nuggets psychedelia, and Jamaican rocksteady, the Philadelphia-based group’s defining blend of cascading harmonies, screaming guitars, and relentlessly grooving rhythms lives somewhere between each one. The band deems their in-between sound Basement Soul. Their electrifying stage show, says Philadelphia radio personality John Vettese, dances “between practiced performances and unhinged spontaneity.” The quartet is fronted by the smooth gravel voice of Todd Fausnacht and his sweetly chaotic guitar. Behind him are Ben Parry on the four-string, Matt MacLeod on the bones, and Josh Parry on the skins. The Dull Blue Lights’ sophomore album Apocalyptic Snow is available to stream everywhere.
