Julia Levitina with Marion Halliday
Born and raised in Odessa, Ukraine, but now calling Philadelphia her home, singer-songwriter Julia Levitina is bringing a global perspective to her unique brand of Americana. Subtly blending in Russian and French folk influences from her youth, Julia’s newly released debut EP, Take Your Time Loving Me, is a snapshot of an artist who has literally and figuratively crossed oceans and seas to pursue her dreams. Julia’s songs are upbeat, thoughtful, sometimes tongue-in-cheek musings about what it takes to live life to the fullest and how to find courage to do that.
Julia has played extensively in Philadelphia and the tri-state area. She is delighted to be returning to World Café Live with full band, featuring John Faye, Kyle Swartzwelder, and Josh Zenker, and to share the stage with Marion Halliday and her band, Trickster Sister, and Almquist on October 17, 2018.
Trickster Sister
Trickster Sister
Marion Halliday, and her band Trickster Sister, is proud purveyor of their own special blend of bluegrass and bourbon-infused original women-powered, Americana. Marion, a native Kentuckian, now living in Philadelphia, is songwriter for the band and has found great inspiration in the 400-year history of her new home-town, writing a range of songs that touch on Philly’s rich and varied past. Marion and the band’s music also include reflections on the challenges of relationships and modern living, as well as an abiding love of bourbon. In addition to Marion, Trickster Sister is comprised of Marion’s sister Jane Halliday of Louisville, Kentucky (violin, banjo uke, vocals), and Philadelphia native, Donna Bostock (bass/percussion, vocals). Marion, Jane and Donna have entertained audiences in a variety of venues, festivals and radio broadcasts in several states in the Northeast, MidAtlantic and as far west as Colorado. In Fall 2017 they band released its first EP of original music ‘Walking in Tall Grass’ available on various music distribution platforms.
