Becca Stevens
Becca Stevens
Always reaching, always expanding, Becca Stevens reinvents herself once again with her new album, Regina. In the years since the release of her critically acclaimed third album, Perfect Animal, Stevens has undertaken a journey that began with a study of Queen Elizabeth I. This expanded into tributes to various queens from history, literature, folklore, and her own imagination, to songs inspired by the regal and divine, and finally to Regina as a voice, like a trusted friend or an alter ego.

“I’ve found that by removing my plots from the storylines I’ve accessed more of my artistry than in my writing before,” says Stevens. “Even though my writing for Regina was inspired by other characters, I told their stories by means of relating to them on a personal level, which made them my stories too. Writing with Regina as my muse has allowed my art free rein to dance in new and unexpected directions.”

As for her muse for the album, Stevens explains, “Regina has become an alter ego, or an imaginary friend. Like a dream, she exists separate from me but is reliant upon my consciousness to exist. I carry her with me in everything now. So I guess you could say that neither ends; in Becca, there is always Regina, and in Regina, there is always Becca.”

Stevens’ style has always evaded categorization, and with Regina, even more so. One hears pop, rock, R&B and funk side-by-side with traditional Appalachian and British folk, classical, world music, and jazz. Intricate instrumentation and rhythms seamlessly intertwine with vocals and melodies that draw you in and stay with you.

The new album, Regina, was produced by Troy Miller, Snarky Puppy’s Michael League, Jacob Collier, Laura Mvula, and the legendary David Crosby.
Taylor Kelly
Taylor Kelly
Taylor Kelly was born and raised in the suburbs of Rochester, NY and currently resides in Philadelphia, PA where she is further discovering herself as an artist. She has a voice that blends both the smoothness and rhythmic nature of jazz, soul and funk. Her tasteful songwriting tells tales of truth in hopes to inspire many to love, live and let go. Also a trumpet player, she proves the importance of a strong horn section and hot horn lines and strives for an instrumental-vocal approach, a rhythmic phrasing and an improvisation that is reminiscent of many of her trumpet playing influences (Chet Baker, Roy Hargrove and Miles Davis to name a few). Her musical stylings are reflective of Erykah Badu and Stevie Wonder as they possess what she believes to be the true essence of music- harmonic complexity, strong melodic contour and lyrical honesty with an absolutely relentless underlying groove.
Taylor graduated from Berklee College of Music in May 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Professional Music where she had diligently studied the vast realm that is music. She leads an 8-piece group that has shared the stage with Moonchild, Becca Stevens, Bahamadia and Georgia Anne Muldrow and has released three albums, her most recent entitled "Do U Feel Me" that released 23 June 2017 (www.taylorkelly.bandcamp.com). She recently was awarded an Akademia Award for Best R&B/Soul EP and was a finalist in the PHL LIVE Center Stage for R&B. Aside from her own group, Taylor is also the front-woman (Tayoncé) of Jay-Z/Beyonce tribute band For the Record (previously Hard Knock Live), who had the unbelievable privilege of opening up for Salt N Pepa at Boston's ThrowBBaQ at City Hall in July 2014.
Aside from performing, Taylor teaches voice, piano, songwriting and trumpet lessons. She takes pride in teaching others and inspiring them to love music in the way she has learned to. "I believe the essence of music is self-expression and finding meaning in every word and/or note but I also realize the importance of music theory, ear training and the ability to read as it allows you to understand music fully and go far beyond what you ever thought you could do."
