The Miners
The Miners
The Miners are an original alt country band based in Philadelphia, PA (yes, there are alt country bands in Philly). Originally formed in 2007, The Miners are known for their country-infused, guitar and pedal steel guitar laden, alt country originals influenced by the likes of Uncle Tupelo, Whiskeytown, Gram Parsons, and Merle Haggard. Co-founded by Keith Marlowe (lead vocals, acoustic and electric guitar), the current line-up also includes Gregg Hiestand (bass), Vaughn Shinkus (drums, backing vocals) and Jim Hartman (lap steel, electric and pedal steel guitar, backing vocals).

The Miners debut six-song EP, Miner’s Rebellion, was released in November 2012 to critical acclaim and notable airplay. The Miners received a featured write-up on No Depression and were featured twice on Bill Frater’s legendary podcast, Freight Train Boogie. Miners’ Rebellion has drawn praise from alt country/Americana blogs both in the U.S. and overseas where it was named a Top-10 release for 2013 by Adobe & Teardrops, was chosen as the #1 Debut Release of 2013 by the blog Popa’s Tunes, and a Best of 2013 by UK radio show Standing in the Shadows of Lev.

Miners’ Rebellion has received airplay on alt country/Americana radio programs in the U.S. and overseas including Wrecking Ball Radio (Chapel Hill, NC; #1 on weekly playlist in March 2013), Radio Free Americana (Verona, VA; #11 on their weekly top-200 artists in February 2013), Redbud Radio Show (Indianapolis, IN), Roots, Rock Review (Z88.9 NJ), The Kitchen Party (WPMG Portland, ME), American Roots and Standing in the Shadows of Lev in the UK, and the Songriver Show and Radio Girl Show out of the Netherlands. Miners’ Rebellion also receives Philadelphia airplay on WXPN on Helen Leicht’s XPN Local Show.

Ballard Spahr Galactica
Ballard Spahr Galactica (also known as BSG) is delighted to join the Miners in their fight against breast cancer. BSG was formed in 2014 to participate in Law Rocks, an event bringing law firm bands together to perform in support of charitable causes. That spirit of giving back combined with the band members' long time devotion to classic rock and rhythm and blues has sustained the band as it has played many charitable fund raisers over the past four years, including for the Philadelphia Bar Foundation, The Philadelphia Volunteers for the Indigent and Constitution High School. The members of the band all work at Ballard Spahr, a Philadelphia-based law firm with offices across the country. Talented players and singers from across the firm – support staff, lawyers, and administrators -- come together regularly to share their love of music and give back to the communities that the firm calls home.
Solar Plexus
Solar Plexus began as a musical collaboration between Katy Hawkins(vocals) and Jeff Barr(guitar) in 2014. When discussing that all too familiar subject of posture, this yogi and carpenter duo came up with their band name Solar Plexus. Soon Plexus added Jeff's longtime musical collaborator John McCall on bass. The band's drummers have included Tony Green from the GreaseMonks and Buck Buchanan from Humbleman Band. Now the drumkit is manned by the incomparable Steve O'Hara. Steve is thrilled to return to the musicmaking with Jeff and John that began back in the early 1990's. In 2015 the band connected with Jeff's childhood friend Pete Richan to record their EP at Pete's Buckeye Studios in S. Phila. The fit and vibe of these sessions was so positive that Pete now frequently sits in with the band on guitar and vocals adding both grit and texture to the mix. Solar Plexus enjoys covering everything from familiar soulful 70's grooves, reimagined 80's pop hits and obscure rootsy singer-songwriter material. The bandmember's relationship to cancer causes is not new. Katy has been teaching yoga classes to support numerous charitable organizations for 6 years and Jeff and his band The Defenders were honored to play this LBBC benefit concert two years ago. Solar Plexus is honored to join the bill for this event and help support this important cause.
