Dee Dee Sharp’s hit "Mashed Potatoes” was a no.2 smash hit in 1962, her first record for the Cameo/Parkway label. Living in Philadelphia, the home of Dick Clark's American Bandstand boosted her career. She was a favorite of Clarks and she appeared on the syndicated teen dance show many times from 1962 to 1981. The first black female teen idol, Sharp also became a fixture on Clark's Caravan of Stars tours, and a familiar face in the popular “16 Magazine”. Many of her records can be found under the name Dee Dee Sharp-Gamble. She married record mogul Kenny Gamble in 1967 and began a slew of recordings on Philadelphia International Records in the 70’s & 80’s that produced some incredible R&B hits. The couple divorced and Ms. Sharp is now married to Attorney, Bill Witherspoon.

At PIR, Dee Dee's career went through a renaissance, releasing three albums for the label and it's subsidiaries. Her number 1 release happened in the early 80’s with “Breaking and Entering/Easy Money”. It reached number one on the dance charts in 1981.
