The Miners
The Miners
The Miners are an original alt country band based in Philadelphia, PA. Originally formed in 2007, The Miners are known for their country-infused, alt country originals influenced by the likes of Uncle Tupelo, Whiskeytown, Gram Parsons, and Merle Haggard. Co-founded by Keith Marlowe (lead vocals, acoustic and electric guitar), the current line-up also includes Gregg Hiestand (bass), Vaughn Shinkus (drums, backing vocals) and a rotating cast of local pedal steel, lap steel and electric guitar players.

The Miners debut six-song EP, Miner’s Rebellion, was released in November 2012 to critical acclaim and notable airplay including a featured write-up on No Depression, inclusion (2X) on Bill Frater’s legendary podcast, Freight Train Boogie, and praise from alt country/Americana blogs both in the U.S. and overseas (UK & Netherlands) where it was named a Top-10 release for 2013 by Adobe & Teardrops, was chosen as the #1 Debut Release of 2013 by the blog Popa’s Tunes, and a Best of 2013 by UK radio show Standing in the Shadows of Lev. The Miners will begin working on their follow up full length album in November 2018.

The Miners live shows feature their originals plus a few tasty classic/alt country covers. The Miners purposely limit their live shows to a half dozen or so per year at a variety of Philadelphia’s top venues including World Café Live and MilkBoy Center City. For the past four years, The Miners host a sold-out benefit at World Café Live (upstairs) raising money for breast cancer charities.
Loose and Alright
Loose and Alright
Loose and Alright was formed by guitarist Sam McIlvain. An open and ever evolving collective, the band is a haven for talented musicians who crave the B3 heavy, funky/soul/jazz/ blues fusion that was happening in and around the late 60s and early 70s. Think the Headhunters, Grant Green, Jimmy Smith, the Meters, Deodato, the JBs, et al. The core of the current lineup consists of Wally Smith, Daniel Bacon, Scott Davis, John Stenger, Lynn Riley, and McIlvain. “I met everyone originally through various projects I played with or knew of,” said McIlvain. “Whether in original or cover bands, they could let their hair down and have straight up fun and really stretch it out when they played with us.” He added, laughing, “Of course, the idea of playing some deep cut Meters tune instead of Don’t Stop Believing or September also helped.” The band plays clubs, bars, and private parties. Fun, energetic, and professional to a T, they capture the feel and spirit of the music they so clearly love. “This band is really nothing more than an homage to all the greats who made these fantastic recordings back in the day.” stated McIlvain, “ We’re just doing our part to pass it along, perhaps introduce it to a new crowd, and add our own twist to these soulful, funky tunes”.
Reckless Amateurs
Reckless Amateurs is a five piece band made of veteran musicians from Northwest Philadelphia. Together for over fifteen years, they play an eclectic blend of American roots music--hidden gems from artists like Patty Griffin, Delbert McClinton, and Kim Richey as well as killer cuts in the same vein from lesser known songwriters. They’ve played many local venues and festivals, including World Café Live, Milkboy, The Mermaid Inn, Mt. Airy’s Night Market and South Street’s Blocktoberfest. In the summer of 2016 the Amateurs were thrilled to play the Main Stage at the Central PA Festival of the Arts in State College, PA.
