New Sweden's Fabric Room EP Release
New Sweden's Fabric Room EP Release
Since forming in late 2009, the five-piece outfit New Sweden, comprised of William Dobies, Jimmy Dukenfield, Dan Weirauch, Zac Dukenfield, and Chuck Knott, has been entertaining fans in the greater Philadelphia region and beyond. With sincere lyrics characteristic of Americana folk combined with the intense melodies of Indie-Rock, New Sweden’s sound is a distinct and complex fusion of raw emotion wrapped up and presented in an artful array of musical flair. Voted best band in Delaware for three consecutive years at the Tri-State Indie Music Awards, New Sweden’s sound has been described by WXPN’s John Vetesse as “an instantly like-able blend: a little bit of Bright Eyes, a little bit of The Avett Brothers, a little bit of The Clash.” The band is eager to introduce audiences to their latest material from their new seven-song EP Fabric Room, produced by Bill Moriarty (Dr. Dog, Man Man, Hoots & Hellmouth). This show will be one of only two opportunities for local fans to get their hands on a physical copy before its official release date of July 15, 2014.
Commonwealth Choir
Golden age indie-rock from Doylestown, Pa. A sea of boom-chucks and ooo-la-la's, their violently lush arrangements blend towering harmonies over 60’s garage rock & 90’s alternative. Their debut EP Shirtless - recorded and produced by the band themselves - was released in late September 2013. Now back in the studio, the Choir is gearing up for a very busy summer - including an appearance at WXPN's annual Xponential Festival in July.
Levee Drivers
Levee Drivers
Levee Drivers' music embodies the sounds of old country souls being reborn into tomorrow's rock. Their music is a modern take on the story-telling of Johnny Cash, driven by early country and blues roots with a startling vocal rendition likened to a cross of Bruce Springsteen and Ryan Adams. Levee Drivers embrace an eclectic mix of sound that engages listeners of all ages and across many genres. They were named "Best of Philly Rising" 2007 by World Cafe Live. Levee Drivers also became the winners of the 2009 Beta Hi-Fi Festival hosted by World Cafe Live, a multi-night music competition with voting by the audience and a panel of judges. In 2010, Levee Drivers won the Deli Magazine "Best Philly Emerging Artist Poll" and came in 9th in the overall contest and were up again for the 2011 "Best Philly Emerging Artist". And recently in 2013, took home the Tri-State Indie Music Award for "Best Indie/Folk Americana Band" in the Tri-State Area.
Alpenglow
Alpenglow began in a small Vermont town when founding members Peter Coccoma, Graeme Daubert, Elori Kramer, and Kenneth Root shared songs in an old stone mill. Over the next two years, after adding bassist Colin Weeks, Alpenglow transformed original songs rooted in the folk tradition into a collection of finely crafted arrangements that are sprawling, moody, and wholly their own. Their music has been described as "swooning, harmony-laden stuff…laced with arcing fiddle, shimmering keys and healthy doses of ringing guitar punch." A hilltop chapel is both the inspiration and recording site for their forthcoming album. Their songs send listeners home to sleep soundly, knowing that somewhere, a resounding calm lies over the countryside.
