Stu and the Gurus
Stu and the Gurus
Stu and The Gurus bring their stunning original alt-rock show back to The World Café, Upstairs in Philly on Friday night, December 2nd. Appearing with us will be the Everly Brothers-influenced Acoustic Pompadours!

Stu and The Gurus are a Media, PA-based seven-piece alternative rock band with dozens of original songs. Their music’s subject matter ranges from passionate to irreverent, and sentimental to hysterical. Stu Skaroff, singer and innovative harmonica player, leads the band and writes most of their songs. Musical director and guitarist Millard Brown writes many of the band’s songs and runs a tight ship. Influences include Leonard Cohen, J.J. Cale, Johnny Cash, John Prine, Frank Zappa and The Moody Blues. Stu and The Gurus perform in many of the Philadelphia area’s top venues, including The Ardmore Music Hall, Bryn Mawr Twilight Concerts, Xfest, The New Leaf Club, Seven Stones Café and Chaplin’s Music Café.
The Acoustic Pompadours
The Acoustic Pompadours
The Acoustic Pompadours feature the banjo and vocals of Mark Schultz who has been playing the banjo for about 50 years (although not continuously), and has played with various bands in the Philadelphia area for almost that long. The band features a high-energy eclectic mixture of folk, swing, bluegrass, klezmer, and country with acoustic instruments. The repertoire ranges from Leonard Cohen to Justin Townes Earle, to Charlie Poole and the North Carolina Ramblers, and reflects influences from Earl Scruggs to the Yiddish Theater.
