Angela Burns
Angela Burns
Angela Burns, a Delaware native, wrote her first song at the age of ten and in her early years used her songwriting as nothing more than a personal journal kept for private enjoyment and reflection. Her love of songwriting also fueled a desire to learn the piano with which she now crafts complex songs in her own unique style. Angela’s latent songwriting talent and her God-given voice and instinctive musical ability are better understoodwhen you learn of her profound musical heritage. Angela’s grandfather Charlie Bailey was a bluegrass pioneer who, along with his brother (Angela’s great-uncle) Danny Bailey, performed as the Bailey Brothers and the Happy Valley Boys in the 1940’s and 50’s, and is recognized by the Smithsonian as having been the first to develop and utilize the duo harmony vocal technique which has since become a signature of modern bluegrass music.

Her debut album, Arbitrary Mind, is filled with fresh, uplifting indie-pop songs, captivating vocals and inspirational lyrics that resonate with imagery and tales of childhood, castles, victory over evil, salvation and hope. The compilation is a sophisticated, emotional blend of piano, bass guitar, banjo and gently insistent rhythms that serve as an ideal backdrop for Angela’s pitch-perfect, achingly beautiful voice.

Given her family's musical history, it should come as no surprise that Angela has been able to produce a gem of a debut album, or that she performs on stage like a seasoned pro. She has a musical gift she could not keep hidden if she tried!
Joy Ike
Joy Ike
Born to Nigerian immigrants, Philadelphia-based independent artist Joy Ike’s music, voice, and writing have drawn comparisons to female musicians such as Corinne Bailey Rae, Regina Spektor, Norah Jones, and Fiona Apple. But her percussive piano-playing and soaring vocals give homage to her African upbringing. Leaving her career as a publicist in 2008, Ike has had the opportunity to share the stage and open for Sara Groves, Jeffrey Gaines, Cody Chestnutt, Deas Vail, Butterfly Boucher, Tyrone Wells, Najee, Allen Toussaint, and The Vespers, to name a few. Ike’s path has consistently taken an “anywhere for anyone” approach playing for intimate audiences in coffeehouse, Universities, house concerts, churches, and small theater settings. A write-up on NPR’s All Things Considered says “The depth of subjects she tackles in her poetic lyrics are perfectly complemented by a unique blend of neo-soul, with just the right dash of pop…a truly compelling act to watch in person, with the ability to create an intimate setting in locations big and small.” Her latest release, ’Walk’, was chosen as a ’Best Of Philly’ submission for NPR’s 2016 Tiny Desk Contest.
